MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PANinfo-icon): A multimillion dollars private salt refinery opened in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, on Sunday, an official said.

Set up by the Mullahinfo-icon Azad Group, the plant cost $4 million (200 million afs), Director of the factory, Eng. Mahfoozullah Fagur, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

 They planned expanding the factory and investing another $24 million in the plant, he said, adding they provided jobs to 200 people. The number of employees would be raised to 1,000, including 200 womeninfo-icon.

Currently, the plant refines 480 tonnes of salt in 24 hours. According to the director, the factory will produce 168,000 tonnes of salt a year.

Abdul Zahir Wahdat, the Balkh deputy governor, said the creation of the plant would boost the country's economy. He asked entrepreneurs for setting more such factories.
