MAIMANA (PANinfo-icon): Seventeen Talibaninfo-icon fighters were killed and 20 others, including a commander, detained during an operation by Afghan forces in northern Faryab province, an official said on Monday.

The operation was conducted by the commando unit of the Afghan National Army (ANA) on Sunday in the Taiz Nava village of Ghormach district, the unit's spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Capt. Ahmad Javed said: "During the operation, with air support from US forces, 17 Taliban were killed and 20 others detained, including Mullahinfo-icon Naeem."

Fifteen motorcycles and some weapons and ammunitions were seized from the militants, he added. A commando was also injured in the offensive.

Security of the district would improve with the detention of the insurgent commander, he hoped.
