GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Three people have lost their lives to diarrhea in the Giro district of southern Ghazni province during the past week, officials said on Monday.
The disease was spreading in several villages of the district, community council leader, Abdul Nabi Lakankhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Two children were among the victims in Chambran and Alamkhel villages of the district, where health centres have been closed for a year, he said.
According to a resident of the Hasankhel area, Muhammad, the disease had affected people of all ages and, if not stopped, it would spread soon to other villages as well.
Director of Ghazni Civil Hospital Dr. Ismail Ibrahimzai said no diarrhea patient from the district had been brought to the hospital. However, he added, they had sent a medical team to the area.
Giro district, bordering southeastern Paktika province, is situated 70 kilometres south of Ghazni City.
