Rebel group joins peace process
SAR-I-PUL (PAN): A seven-member rebel group joined the peace process in the Sayad district of northern Sar-i-Pul province, officials said on Monday.
Led by Damullah Namatullah, the insurgents who operated in the Pasta Mazar village also surrendered four weapons, said Col. Mir Ali Nadim, a spokesman for the Disarmament of Illegal Armed Groups programme.
The surrendering rebel commander said Sayad had been the most volatile district of the province last year. He added they had joined the militants to protect their families.
The group's surrender would help improve the security situation in the province, hoped Governor Sayed Anwar Rahmati.
