SHARAN (PANinfo-icon): Five Talibaninfo-icon militants were killed during a joint operation in the Sarobi district of southeastern Paktika province, officials said on Tuesday.

The operation was conducted by local police and international troops in the Mangripi area, said Mukhlis Afghan, the governor's spokesman.

One rebel commander known as Uzbek, a resident of Orgun, was killed and another detained, Afghan added. Three motorcycles, weapons and ammunitions were also seized.

The bodies of the five militants were transferred to the district centre, said Qader Gul, the administrative head of Sarobi.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, confirmed the loss of only one fighter. He claimed seven Afghan and foreign soldiers were killed and four others injured in the battle.

Separately, two mine planters were detained in the Waza Khwa district, Afghan concluded.
