Faryab head-on collision claims 8 lives
MAIMANA (PAN): Eight people perished and one was injured in a head-on collision in northern Faryab province, officials said on Tuesday.
The accident occurred near the border between Andkhoi and Khwaja Dukoh districts, where a Hino truck collided with a Corolla car on the Faryab-Jawzjan highway, the traffic chief told Pajhwok Afghan News.
1st Lt. Muhibullah said eight passengers were killed and a child injured.
Sayed Masood Yaqubi, the governor’s spokesman, said the truck driver was drunk and a wine bottle was found in his vehicle. He said the driver managed to flee the scene, but an investigation had been launched into the incident.
Dr. Abdul Ali Halim, the public health director, confirmed receiving eight bodies and an 8-year-old injured child, whose condition was stable, at the provincial civil hospital.
