Gen. Allen visits troops in Paktika
KABUL (PAN): The top NATO commander visited international troops in southeastern Paktika province and received briefings. He also conducted a visual reconnaissance of the key terrain, the alliance said on Wednesday.
Gen. John R. Allen met Afghan forces, the district sub-governor and village elders on the continuation of joint operations to disrupt insurgent support zones, expanding Afghan personnel's capacity in the region, reintegration efforts and economic development of Paktika.
A statement from ISAF quoted Gen. Allen as saying: "We are seeing a sea change in the area due to our partnered operations with the Afghan National Army and police. I can't applaud enough the constant disruption of insurgents through our partnered operations..."
Comprised of 49 nations, the130,000-strong force is also providing support to the government and the international community in security-sector reform, including mentoring, training and operational support to the Afghan army and police.
