Interior ministry rejects UN report
The United Nations report said there had been a string of militant attacks in the seven regions, whose security responsibility had been transferred to Afghan forces.
The seven areas include Kabul, Panjsher and Bamiyan provinces, as well as the cities of Herat, Mazar-i-Sharif, Mahtarlam and Lashkargah.
Although the fighters were trying to destabilise the situation, Afghan soldiers were able to provide security for the seven areas, a spokesman for the ministry said.
Speaking to Pajhwok Afghan News, Ghulam Siddique Siddiqui said: "It's the UN chief's personal opinion and is not supposed to be the same as ours."
Ban Ki-moon said in his report to the Security Council that the number of security incidents during the first eight months of the year was nearly 40 percent higher than in the corresponding period of 2010.
