Protestors seek punishment for Rabbani's killers
FAIZABAD (PAN): A large number of school and university students and teachers of northeastern Badakhshan province on Thursday demanded stringent punishment for the killers of High Peace Council chairman Prof. Burhanuddin Rabbani.
Rabbani was killed along with three members of the peace panel in a suicide attack on his residence in the high-security Wazir Akbar Khan area of Kabul on September 20.
"The aim of our demonstration is to seek a swift investigation into the assassination," said Shakila, a 12th grader. She asked the government to catch the assassins and bring them to justice.
The protestors submitted a resolution to the regional office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). It asked for a joint probe by Afghan and UN officials.
It demanded the government name the Badakhshan University after Prof. Rabbani. Separately, a condolence ceremony was also held for the former president in Faizabad. A large number of people and local officials participated in the event.
