JALALABAD (PANinfo-icon): Two oil tankers were torched on the Kabulinfo-icon-Jalalabad highway, closing the busy road for hours on Friday, officials said.

The Talibaninfo-icon had torched two ISAFinfo-icon supply tankers at 12:40pm in Aab Resham Tangi area of Sarobi district, forcing the road's closure till 3pm, the Laghman-Jalalabad highway commander told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Col. Shakoor Khan said the tankers were heading to Kabul. The attackers fled the area. With firefighters yet to reach the scene, the tankers were still aflame, he added.

A large number of vehicles waited for the road to reopen, as authorities tried to send firefighters from Laghman.

District chief, Hazrat Muhammad Haqbeen, confirmed the incident. He was in Kabul and had no further information.

A resident of Qarghayee district, Zar Wali, said their vehicle was passing through the area when the tankers were attacked by three men with rockets.
