Man convicted on drug charges

Oct 02, 2011 - 15:39

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): A man was convicted on the charge of possessing 125 kilograms of opium and sentenced to 16 years in prison by a primary court, the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) said on Sunday.

The 55 years old, hailing from western Farah province, had been detained on the charge of keeping 125 kg of opium in his house, CJTF spokesman Ahmad Khalid Mowahid told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Under the relevant law, a convict could move the appellant court before approaching to Supreme Court against the primary court decision.

In the first quarter of the current solar year (Mar 22-Jun 21, 2011), the primary court convicted 177 people on charges of drug trafficking. However, one accused was exonerated.
