KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): An Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was killed in a second suicide attack in southern Kandahar province on Monday, an official said.
A bomber, wearing ANA uniform, detonated his explosives at the entrance to the Kabul Bank branch inside the 205th Army Corps at around 12:30pm, the governor’s spokesman said.
After being identified, the bomber was shot at by a soldier on duty, Zalmay Ayubi told Pajhwok Afghan News. The assailant died after detonating his explosives.
The ANA soldier, who opened fire on the attacker, was killed, Ayubi said.
Two hours earlier, a suicide bomber targeted Border Affairs Minister Asadullah Khalid, who survived the attack, but two people were killed and 19 others injured.
The bombing took place in the Haji Arab area of the 2nd district of Kandahar City at around 10:30am. Ayubi said the victims, all civilians, were taken to the Mirwais Civil Hospital.
A doctor at the hospital confirmed receiving 19 injured people, including four children. He said two of them were in critical condition.
