TIRINKOT (PANinfo-icon): A 36-kilometre road linking Chora district with Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, was inaugurated, officials said on Wednesday.

Governor Mohammad Omar Sherzad, Dutch Minister for Development Cooperation Ben Knapen, Bob Akam, an ISAFinfo-icon commander, officials and tribal elders participated in Tuesday's inaugural ceremony in Chora.

Funded by the Netherlands, the six-metre wide and 36-km-long road cost $32 million and took 18 months to complete, Sherzad told participants, thanking the Dutch for implementing the project.

Ben Knapen said transportation hardships of residents would be resolved with the execution of the project, which would help boost the people's economy.

Residents, happy with construction of the road, were asked to secure and maintain the road.

People would be able to easily transfer their patients and produce to Tirinkot, said a resident of the district, Mohammad Rahim.
