District police chief among 5 convicted on drug charges
KABUL (PAN): A district police chief was among five individuals sentenced to 20 years in jail on charges of drug trafficking by a court of the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF), an official said on Wednesday.
The police officer had aided the men, who were arrested transporting eight kilograms of heroin from the border district of Khan Charbagh to Turkmenistan, Ahmad Khalid Mowahid, the CJTF spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The accused had laywers to argue on their behalf and were convicted by an appellant court at the end of an open trial based on evidence, the CJTF spokesman said.
The officer can appeal the appellate court decision to the Supreme Court, Mowahid said.
