AIBAK (PAN): Thousands of residents of northern Samangan province on Wednesday protested the assassination of former president Prof. Burhanuddin Rabbani, blocking the Kabul-Mazar-i-Sharif highway.
The protest started at 8am and ended at 10:30am in the Banar Aibak area of the provincial capital. Nearly 4000 demonstrators condemned the assassination and asked the government to punish the perpetrators.
Carrying photos of Prof. Rabbani, Gen. Daud Daud and Gen. Khan Mohammad, the protestors chanted "down with Pakistan and down with the Inter-services Intelligence (ISI)."
Parliamentarian Mohammad Asif Azimi and provincial council member Mohammad Husain Ziyaee called for a thoroughgoing investigation into the murder with the help of the International Court of Justice.
Ziayee asked the government to declare war on Pakistan for if peace was to be restored in Afghanistan. The people were ready to fight against the neighbouring country.
