KABUL (PAN): The United Arab Emirates (UAE) scored 361 runs on day one of the four-day ICC Intercontinental Cup match against Afghanistan at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium on Wednesday.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat, with Palekar Hamid, Swapnil Patil, Kurram Khan and Vikrant Shetty respectively scoring 76, 61, 52 and 57 runs, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) said. Another important contribution came from Amjad Ali (49).
For Afghanistan, Daulat Zadran shone with the bowl, capturing four wickets in a fiery spell of 17 overs and Samiullah Shinwari claimed two scalps. However, he was rather expensive, conceding 79 runs. Hamid Hassan had to be content with a solitary wicket.
Led by Khurram Khan in the second-round match, the home UAE still have two wickets intact. The two sides are scheduled to play two games as part of the Associate and Affiliate 50-over League on October 10 and 12.
Captained by Nawroz Mangal, the Afghan squad includes Mohammed Nabi, Mohammad Stanikzai, Mohammad Shahzad, Javed Ahmadi, Samiullah Shinwari, Karim Sadiq, Hamid Hassan, Mirwais Ashraf, Aftab Alam, Gulbadin Naib, Daulat Zadran, Izzatullah Daulatzai and Amir Hamza Hotak.
