Karzai condemns Helmand bus attack
One child was killed and 16 other passengers, including women and children, were wounded in the incident that took place in Greshk district.
The Kabul-bound bus came under fire early in the morning, according to the district chief, who blamed the Taliban for the shooting. The injured included four children, eight women and four men.
As Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said he was unaware of the pre-dawn incident, a local commander, who did not want to be named, denied the fighters were responsible.
Denouncing the assault as a terrorist act, Karzai said: "Killing innocent civilians is the handiwork of foreign agents, the enemies of Afghans..."
In a statement from his office, the president said the Afghans would never forget the killing and wounding of innocent children. He extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the early recovery of the injured.
