2.5 tonnes of hashish seized in Nangarhar
JALALABAD (PAN): Around 2.5 tonnes of hashish were seized by border police in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Saturday.
The drugs were confiscated in a sweeping operation conducted in the Bangzar area of Haska Mina district on Friday night, Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel, a border police commander, told a news conference.
The drug runners had stored as many as 2500 kilograms of hashish in 79 bags in mountainous Bangzar area, Amarkhel said, adding the smugglers wanted to traffic the drug to Pakistan.
No one had been detained in connection with the seizure. “We cannot hunt the drug traffickers because we don’t have helicopters and they are sometimes being informed of our operation before the launch,” he explained.
