Presidential Palace denies Ahmadi was Karzai’ guard
On Wednesday, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) officials said four university students, a professor and a presidential guard were arrested on charges of plotting Karzai's assassination.
Kabul University professor Dr. Emal Habib, Parvez, Abdul Hamid Mashal, Rahmatullah Ramin, Abdul Bashir and Mohibullah Ahmadi, one of the presidential guards and a resident of the Karz area in southern Kandahar province, were in detention, NDS spokesman Lotfullah Mashal said.
According to him, the students were members of the Al Qaeda and Haqqani networks and had direct ties to intelligence services of neighbouring countries.
In a statement, the Presidential Palace rejected media reports that Ahmadi was Karzai’s guard, saying that he was working as guard at one of the external gates and had no permit to enter the palace.
