LASHKARGAH (PANinfo-icon): The NATOinfo-icon-led troops have detained a Talibaninfo-icon commander, accused of killing 15 tribal elders and local residents, in southern Helmand province, officials said on Sunday.

The commander was held on Saturday night during an operation by international soldiers in the Matki area of Marja district, Daud Ahmadi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Lal Mohammad, also known as Nasrat, was involved in activities against the government and foreign forces in Nad Ali and Marja districts, he said.

Separately, some weapons and explosives were confiscated in another operation, deputy police chief Col. Kamaluddin Sherzai said.

The weapons and explosives included 10 Kalashnikovs along with 300 bullets, two machine guns with 11920 bullets, 20 walkie-talkies, three mines and 44 remote-controllers, he said.

He added three men were netted in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, another militant commander was arrested on Saturday night in the Shesha Khana area of Faizabad district in northern Jawzjan province, an intelligence official said in condition of anonymity.
