Security and Crime8 rebels, policeman dead in Nimroz clash
By Ramin Oct 9, 2011 - 11:58ZARANJ (PAN): Eight Taliban fighters and a policeman were killed during a clash in southwestern Nimroz province, an official said on Sunday.
The clash took place late on Saturday between the insurgents and police in the Qala-i-Fateh area of Char Burjak district, Brig. Gen. Abdul Jabar Purdali, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The militants’ bodies lay on the scene, Purdali said, adding a pick-up vehicle, a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), five Kalashnikovs, a machinegun, a pistol, and two mines were also seized by the security personnel.
A policeman was killed and two others were also injured in the skirmish.
Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, a Taliban spokesman, claimed two police vehicles were destroyed as a result of the attack, but he had no information about the casualties inflicted on the police.
