4 rebels killed, a dozen more arrested:MoI
KABUL (PAN): Four armed insurgent were killed and a dozen more arrested by Afghan police backed by local and foreign troops and intelligence operatives in several provinces over the past 24 hours, the interior ministry said on Wednesday.
Afghan National Police, Afghan National Army, NDS and Coalition forces launched four joint operations in Kandahar, Helmand, Logar and Paktika provinces, the ministry said in a statement.
During the operations, police confiscated two AK-47 assault rifles, 67 heavy bullets, 52 anti-vehicle mines, 5 hand grenades, 295kg of explosives used in making improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 1920 liters of acid, 2450 kilograms of chemical fertiliser, 245kg of gun powder, two pistols and 61 heavy bullet projectiles.
In Kandahar, police arrested a man with three remote-controlled mines in the 13th police district of Kandahar City, the provincial capital province on Monday. It claimed the detainee had connection with Haqqani network.
In western Herat province, police arrested an insurgent commander in Borya Baft village of Pashton Zarghon district the same day.
Over the past 24 hours, the statement said police discovered and confiscated 10 anti-vehicle mines, 20 different types of mines, 2 drums filled with 15kg of explosives, one missile, one AK-47 and one pistol during operations in Nangarhar, Parwan, Faryab, Helmand, Zabul, Paktika, Paktiya and Herat provinces.
Police also arrested 18 individuals accused of killing, bribe, fake passport, robbery, seizing government property and trafficking alcoholic beverages in the 9th, 1st, 17th police districts of Kabul and Chahar Asiab district of central Kabul province.
Meanwhile, police arrested three smugglers with 104kg of opium and 58kg of hashish in surrounding areas of the Spin Boldak District of Kandahar province. The narcotics were placed in a vehicle.
