Mortar shells target militant hideouts in Nuristan
JALALABAD (PAN): Four mortar shells targeting militant hideouts were slammed into the eastern province of Nuristan from neighbouring Nangarhar province on Thursday, but there was no report about casualties, officials said.
The shells hit mountainous areas of Wanth Waigal, Zemi Belah, Ansos, and Kamdish, where militant had set up training centers, Anyatullah Mazhabyar, the provincial council chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He had no information about casualties, but said the shells were probably fired from an airport in Nangarhar.
Nuristan governor Tamem Nuristani also confirmed the shelling, but had no information about casualties.
An ISAF spokesman in the eastern zone expressed unawareness about the shelling. However, he said the troops targeted militant training centers in Kunar province late on Wednesday.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, confirmed the attack, saying there were no casualties among insurgents.
