ISAF condoles with families of fallen soldiers

Oct 14, 2011 - 18:33

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): ISAFinfo-icon has expressed condolences to the families of its fallen warriors and to the families of Afghan partners, who lost their lives on August 6 when their CH-47 Chinook helicopter was brought down by enemy fire in central Maidan Wardak province.

"In the wake of this terrible loss, United States Central Command assigned Brig. Gen. Jeff Colt to conduct a thorough investigation into the facts and circumstances of the mission," the force said in a statement on Friday. It added the investigation has now been complete, and a careful, complete review of what occurred on that day has been provided to the families of those who lost their loved ones, and has been released publicly.

"This tragedy took the lives of 30 US service members, as well as seven Afghan special operators and an Afghan interpreter - and is a tremendous sacrifice for the cause of freedom in Afghanistaninfo-icon," said Gen. John R. Allen, commander of the International Security Assistance Force.

"Our condolences go to the families of these heroes. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten. Although we cannot diminish the grief of these families and loved ones, we will forever pay tribute to these guardians of freedom who gave their lives for the cause of peace and stability in Afghanistan."
