Key Haqqani leader killed in Waziristan drone strike: US
KABUL (PAN): A key commander of the Haqqani network has been killed in a US drone attack in Pakistan's lawless tribal region of North Waziristan near the Afghanistan border, US officials claimed on Friday.
A house was attacked by the unmanned plane on Thursday morning in Danda Darpakhel area. Local authorities said the attack left three people dead.
An important commander named Janbaz Zadran alias Jameel, who supported the network in attacks against ISAF and Afghan forces inside Afghanistan, was among those killed, US authorities said.
Zadran was a close associate of a leader of the network Badar-ud-Din Haqqani, they said.
Badar-ud-Din Haqqani is in US State Department's black list and is accused of attacking the US embassy in Kabul last month.
More than 1,900 insurgents in Pakistan's tribal areas have been killed by American drones since 2006. mas/ma
