11,600 smuggled vehicles registered in Kandahar
KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): As many as 11,600 vehicles, which were smuggled into the country, have been registered in compliance with President Hamid Karzai's decree, the governor's office said on Saturday.
A statement from the Governor's House quoted the Kandahar traffic director, customs head and revenue office chief as saying that the registration had earned the government 545 million afghanis (id="mce_marker"1.38 million).
"The registration process was a bit slow in the first three months but gained momentum during the last three month," said Traffic Director Col. Mohammadullah Khan Kandahar.
He said the process had been extended for a week to register 5,000 more vehicles. All unregistered vehicles will be impounded after the registration drive ends.
Customs Director Azizullah Jalazai said 535 millions afghanis would be paid to Da Afghanistan Bank and 39845547 afghanis to the Kandahar Customs Department.
