Kunar clash claims 4 lives
The gunbattle erupted on Friday night when the fighters stormed Afghan National Army (ANA) checkpoints in Asmar district, said a border police commander.
Lt. Col. Fazal Rabi told Pajhwok Afghan News it was unclear whether the Taliban or security forces' fire had caused the civilian casualties.
Four people were killed and six others injured when a shell fired by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) landed in a house, said the governor’s spokesman, Wasifullah Wasifi.
However, the ISAF media office in eastern zone, denied their shelling had led to civilian casualties. It said the troops only targeted insurgent positions.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said they had killed one foreign soldier and injured several others during the gunbattle. Four civilians were killed during an ISAF airstrike, he added.
