Pakistan fires 45 artillery shells into Kunar

ASADABAD (PAN): In a fresh cross-border attack, Pakistani forces fired at least 45 artillery shells into eastern Kunar province, an official alleged on Saturday.

Since Friday morning, 45 shells fired from Pakistan have landed in Dangam district, injuring a child and damaging several civilian houses, Gen. Ewaz Mohammad, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The attack came after tribal elders from eight districts appointed two delegations on Wednesday for direct talks with Afghan government and Pakistan army officials.

Elders from Khas Kunar, Watapur, Sarkani, Dangam, Marwara, Shaigal, Asmar, Ghaziabad, and Narai districts attended the meeting. They warned Pakistan of harsh reaction if the attacks continued.

Governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi has warned if the talks failed, Afghan forces would retaliate in case of any new incursion.
