US-funded police HQ opens in Sar-i-Pul
SAR-I-PUL (PAN): A newly-constructed building for the district police headquarters was inaugurated in the northern province of Sar-i-Pul on Saturday, officials said.
Having administrative rooms, a dining hall, a conference hall and separate cells for male and female prisoners, the project took one year to complete, the provincial police chief said.
Brig. Gen. Mohammad Yaqub Zabuli told Pajhwok Afghan News the facility had been constructed over 2.5 acres of land at a cost of $450,000 (nearly 21.5 million afghanis) provided by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
“Previously, we did all our work in three rooms,” said the district police chief, Ghulam Nabi Khurram. Happy over the construction, he said their space problem had been resolved.
Police would be able to perform their activities in a better environment, he added. A power generator and a 10,000-litre fuel tanker had also been donated by the US Army, he concluded.
