7 ANA soldiers killed in Farah ambush

Oct 17, 2011 - 10:40

FARAH CITY (PANinfo-icon): Seven Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed as a result of a Talibaninfo-icon ambush in western Farah province, officials said on Monday.

The militants attacked a security convoy late on Sunday in the Haji Habibullah Pump area of Bakwa district on the Farah-Herat highway, Public Healthinfo-icon Director Abdul Jabbar Shaiq told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Five dead bodies were brought to Farah Civil Hospital.

Two bodies were taken to Dilaram district in the neighbouring Nimroz province, a police officer said on condition of anonymity. He added the rebels had also taken away two ANA pick-up vehicles.

“The insurgents ambushed the convoy heading to the ANA headquarters,” said a witness, Gul Aqa. Afghan soldiers suffered casualties and one of their vehicles was damaged during the 30-minute clash.

A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, said eight ANA soldiers were killed and their vehicle destroyed in the engagement.
