Taliban-designated district chief killed in airstrike

ASADABAD (PANinfo-icon): A Talibaninfo-icon-designated district chief was killed along with two of his associates during an airstrike by foreign troops in eastern Kunar province, an official said on Monday.

The raid was conducted on Sunday night in the Narai district, resulting in the death of the Taliban's shadow district head, Brig. Gen. Ewaz Mohammad, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The district chief, Gul Zaman, also confirmed the strike, saying Maulviinfo-icon Sher Mohammad Haqqani who was killed. The deceased was responsible for disruptive activities in the area, he added.   

The ISAFinfo-icon media office in the eastern zone said the operation was conducted on Sunday night. However, the force did not release further information.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, confirmed the death of three fighters in the airstrike. He claimed a tank belonging to foreign troops was blown up in the area, killing all soldiers on board.
