ISLAMABAD (PANinfo-icon): Nine Frontiers Corps (FC) soldiers and 16 militants were killed in a fierce clash in Pakistaninfo-icon’s northwestern Khyber Pukhtunkhwa province, local officials said on Tuesday.

The gunbattle took place late on Monday after the rebels ambushed a convoy of the paramilitary force in the Akakhel area of Bara sub-district, Fayyaz Gul, a local official, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Nine FC personnel were killed and six others injured, he said, adding that 16 insurgents were also killed, seven others wounded and as many captured as a result of the clash lasting several hours.

Elsewhere in the region, three civilians perished and two were wounded when a mortar shell landed in the Tatara area, resident Sohail Afridi said.

A rocket hit the office of Noor-ul-Haq, a lawmaker and religious leader, in the Landkotal area, causing no casualties. But the building was  partly damaged.

Separately, two people were killed and four others injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a wedding ceremony in Buner district.
