ISLAMABAD (PAN): At least seven people were killed and 16 others injured when mortar shells hit a mosque and a house in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pukhtunkhwa province, an official said on Wednesday.
Five rockets struck the worship place late on Tuesday in the Kalanga area of Bara sub-district of the Khyber tribal region, killing five worshippers, Zarin Shinwari, a local official, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The mosque was partially damaged in the attack, he added.
Without giving exact casualty figures, Mushtaq, a doctor on duty at the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, confirmed receiving several critically wounded people.
Elsewhere in the region, one soldier of the Frontiers Corps (FC) and a child were killed after a mortar shell hit a house in the Akakhel area of Bara, said Farooq Afridi, a resident, who added two women were wounded and their house damaged in a separate rocket strike.
