KHOST CITY (PAN): Hundreds of poets, poetry lovers and officials from different parts of the country attended a mushaira (poetic session) aimed at promoting peace in southeastern Khost province, an official said on Thursday.

Organised by the governor’s office, the session that started in the evening ended late at night. “It is good to note that poets and writers have gathered to push the cause of peace,” Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi told participants.

Renowned poet Abdul Bari Jehani told the session he had come to take part in an event meant to promote peace. Such ventures were welcome in that they brought together people from a cross section of society, he added.

“Young writers and poets can move people away from the battlefield to a normal life. Their role can help a great deal in stopping killings,” believed Wali Margan Darman, an upcoming poet and writer.
