Prison officials, policemen complete training
KANDAHAR/SHIBERGHAN (PAN): A dozen prison officers and more than 160 policemen completed training courses in Kandahar and Jawzjan provinces, officials said on Thursday.
In Jawzjan, 161 border policemen graduated from a professional training course on Thursday, border police commander, Gen. Habibullah Syedkheli, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The three-month training programme was arranged by the US security agency, Blackwater. Some of the graduates will be deputed in Qarqin and Khamab districts and the rest sent to other provinces.
Meanwhile, a dozen prison officers were from the southern zone awarded certificates on completing a 45-day training course in southern Kandahar province.
Kandahar prisoner chief, Col. Farooq, said that the graduates belonged to Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan and Zabul provinces.
He added the officers received training in human rights, prison laws, behaviour with inmates and other related subjects.
Also in Kandahar, 56 12th grade graduates appeared in a test for a nursing course. Held at the Mirwais Hospital, the exam would pave the way for 35 successful girls to attend a two-year nursing course at the Kandahar Medical Institute.
The institute head, Dr. Nasrin Barakzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News 79 students had applied for admission to the course, but only 56 of them sat the test.
