ASADABAD (PAN): Fourteen people, including 13 from a family, were injured in a rocket strike in the Ghaziabad district of eastern Kunar province, officials said on Friday.
The rocket hit a house during a rebel assault on a security post in the Waigal area on Thursday afternoon, Governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Wahidi said it was unclear who had fired the rocket. An investigation into the incident was ongoing, he added. Neither the insurgents nor security personnel suffered casualties.
Eleven of the injured are under treatment at an ISAF-led force said in a statement.
Two of the critically wounded women were later sent to the Nangarhar Civil Hospital, said Dr. Farooq Sahak, director of the Kunar Civil Hospital.
“I was on my way home on Thursday evening when the clash erupted. I took cover in a house nearby,” said Najibullah, one of the injured people. Later, ISAF planes struck the house, he added.
But the ISAF office in the eastern zone rejected the claim.
