CHAGHCHARAN (PAN province on Friday, an official said.

Another three fighters were wounded during the gunbattle triggered by a Taliban attack on a police checkpoint in the district, the Ghor deputy police chief said.

Col. Rashid Bashir told Pajhwok Afghan News that a cousin of Mullah Mustafa was killed along with two associates during the firefight.

The governor’s spokesman, Abdul Hai Khatibi, confirmed the clash. He said police suffered no casualties in the firefight. 

Meanwhile, the Taliban claimed killing Murtaza, a brother of Mullah Mustafa, local police commander for Chasht district in Herat province, along with several other policemen.

Rebel spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said a number of policemen transferring Murtaza’s body were also killed by the fighters.
