JALALABAD (PAN): A border policeman was wounded when the vehicle he was travelling in hit a roadside bomb in eastern Nangarhar province on Friday, an official said.

The remote-controlled blast happened in the Karkana area of Lalpura district at 2pm, a border police commander, Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the border police personnel were travelling in a Ranger pick-up to Fatah Mina area near the Afghan-Pakistan border. The vehicle was damaged as a result of the blast.

The explosion was followed by a clash between militants and policemen, Amarkhel said, adding that casualties were inflicted on the fighters. However, he had no specific figures.

As usual, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the bomb attack. Their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said four policemen were killed in the blast.
