FAIZABAD (PAN): More than 10,000 drought-affected families in northeastern Badakhshan province were given food, seeds and animal feed on Saturday, officials said.
The items were distributed to victims from 13 districts of the province, Mohammad Salim Kunduzi, the deputy agriculture minister, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the ministry was trying to reach out to approximately, 2.5 million farmers affected by the drought across the country were.
Each family received 200 kilograms of wheat, 50 kg of seeds, as much rice and the same amount of animal feed, said Mohammad Alem Alemi, the agriculture director. The beneficiaries were chosen on the basis of a survey by the department.
Governor Shah Waliullah Adeeb said the survey showed a 50 percent cut in farmers’ harvest.
One of the farmers, Tamim, said he was happy with the assistance. Last year’s drought had affected many people in the province, he added.
