KABUL): Seventeen individuals were sentenced up to 20 years in jail on charges of trafficking drugs, the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) announced on Sunday.
Having defence lawyers to plead their cases, the accused were convicted by an appellant court at the end of an open trial on the basis of evidence, CJTF spokesman Ahmad Khalid Mowahid told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Hailing from Helmand, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Urizgan, Ghazni and Badghis provinces, the men were held with more than 313 kilograms of heroin and 998 kg of opium.
