KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): The final of a football tournament between Kandahar-A and B teams was drawn 1-1 at the Ahmad Shahi Stadium in the southern province, an official said on Sunday.
Kandahar-A was won the first position on the basis of points scored by it. Starting six days ago, the Wali Karzai Football Tournament involved teams from Balochistan and southwestern Farah province.
Kandahar Sports Director Mohammadullah Gulalai told Pajhwok Afghan News the final match was played on Saturday evening. The A team scored a goal in the first half, but the rivals were able to tie the match in the second half.
The final was drawn, but the A squad was placed into first position in line with the points table, Gulalai said. Farah gained second position and Kandahar-B finished third.
A football player from Kandahar, Abdul Sami Ghairatmal, told Pajhwok Afghan News they were faced with problems with regard to training. He added their trainers were unaware of new soccer techniques.
Gulalai said they were in search of experienced trainers. Officials at the Iranian consulate in the city have promised assistance in training Afghan footballers.
