KANDAHAR: Four civilians were injured in an explosion in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Monday.

The incident took place at around 9:00am in the Loya Wyala area of 9th police district, Zalmay Ayubi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The remote-controlled bomb, attached to motorcycle, went off when a police vehicle was passing the area, Ayubi said, adding three people sustained injuries and were rushed to the Mirwais Civil Hospital.

However, an official at the hospital confirmed receiving four injured people, all in a stable condition.

Witness Abdul Ghani said the police vehicle had already passed the area when the powerful detonation occurred.

MAIDAN WARDAK: Two tanks of the NATO) were completely damaged during roadside bombings in central Maidan Wardak province, officials said on Monday.

The explosions took place in the Khwat area of Chak district late on Sunday, Mohammad Ismail Wafa, the town’s administrative head, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Witness Mohammad Nasir said the bodies of five soldiers were shifted from the scene by helicopter. But a statement from ISAF confirmed only one explosion in Chak, saying the blast caused no casualties.

The governor’s spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid, quoted international troops as saying that one of their tanks was damaged in the explosions.

NANGARHAR: Three policemen were wound in a roadside bombing on Monday in the eastern province of Nangarhar, officials said.

The explosion took place at 9am near a police checkpoint in Angur Bagh area of Jalalabad, the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Two injured policemen were taken to hospital after the explosion, he said, but another police official in area said on condition of anonymity that a police officer and two policemen were wounded.

Two of the injured were in critical condition while the third was slightly wounded, the source said.

No one has so far claimed responsibility for the blast.

On Sunday, an employee of Roshan private telecommunication company was killed in a blast in Khogyani district and while administrative officer of Kabul Bank was killed as a result of another blast on Saturday in the same district.

NANGARHAR: A man was killed while two others were injured in a bomb blast in Khogyani district of eastern Nangarhar province on Monday, district chief Haji Muhammad Hassan told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The blast occurred in the Ahmadkhel area of the district when a motorbike struck a roadside bomb. The injured were taken to hospital where they were in stable condition, Hassan said.
