ISLAMABAD: Four people, including a member of an anti-insurgent militia, were killed in a bomb blast the Lower Dir district of Pakistan‘s northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday, a police official said.
Pro-government militia member Azizur Rehman, his son and two others were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in hit a roadside bomb in a remote area of the district, a sub-inspector of police said.
Tahir Shah told Pajhwok Afghan News the vehicle was damaged as a result of the improvised explosive device blast. The victims were going from the Ghonday village to the Samar Bagh area, he said.

KABUL: A number of suspected insurgents were detained and a narcotics cache seized during an operation in southern Kandahar province, the International Security Assistance Force said on Tuesday.
An Afghan-coalition patrol arrested the suspects in Registan district on Monday, the alliance said in a statement, giving no specific number.
The cache contained 670 kilograms of wet opium and 90 kg of dry opium, which were safely destroyed on site, the statement added.

KABUL: Eleven armed insurgents were killed and as many others detained during joint operations over the past 24 hours in different provinces, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Saturday.
The operations were conducted by Afghan and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) personnel in Kabul, Ghazni and Baghlan provinces, the ministry said in a statement.
Weapons, including six AK-47 assault rifles along with eight magazines, one pistol, five hand grenades and two vehicles, were seized during the offensives.
Two drug smugglers were detained in the Pul-i-Kokcha area on the outskirts of Taloqan, the capital of northern Takhar province. Sixteen kilograms of opium and 16 packages of heroin were seized from the smugglers.
Separately, seven smugglers were held with 845 kilograms of heroin during a joint operation in Garmser district of southern Helmand province.

KABUL: An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) helicopter was slightly damaged in an insurgent attack in central Kapisa province, the alliance said on Tuesday.
The incident took place on Monday afternoon when militants fired at the copter supporting Afghan security forces in Ala Sai district, the ISAF Joint Command (IJC) media office said in a statement.
“The helicopter safely returned to a nearby ISAF installation, where it was inspected and confirmed to have received two bullet strikes,” the statement added.
No personnel were harmed in the attack and the helicopter was currently undergoing repairs, it continued.
But a Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed the fighters downed the helicopter in Tagab district and around 20 Germen troops on board were killed.

KUNAR: Thirteen Taliban militants were killed during an airstrike by foreign troops in eastern Kunar province, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Tuesday.
Scores of insurgents were killed in the raid late on Monday night, a statement from the NATO-led force said. Another three fighters were detained, it added.
The operation was conducted in the Shonkray area of Khas Kunar district, Habibullah Jangi, the district police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said five Pakistani fighters were among the dead.
But a Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, confirmed the loss of only 10 fighters in the attack. He said the detainees were area residents, with no links to the Taliban.
