KABUL): President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday left Kabul for Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to attend Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud’s funeral, the Presidential Palace said.

Karzai is accompanied by his Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul, a statement said, adding he would also extend deep condolences to the Saudi King’s family on behalf of Afghans on the sidelines of ceremony.

The 83-year-old prince died of a colon cancer at a hospital in New York on Saturday and his body was flown back to Riyadh on Monday. Sultan’s funeral will be held later on Tuesday, with many Muslim leaders and dignitaries from all over the world in attendance.

Sudanese President Omer Al Bashir, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razaq, Kuwaiti leader Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Indian Public Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and others would attend the funeral.

Additionally, top officials from other non-Muslim countries, including US Vice President Joe Biden, Japanese Prince Narohita, British Prince Charles, Spanish prince and others, have already reached Riyadh.
