KABUL (PAN): Featuring dozens of players, trials for the national tennis squad got underway in Kabul on Tuesday, an official said.
About 60 youth from Herat, Ghazni, Parwan and Nangarhar provinces are taking part in the week-long event in the tennis court of the National Olympic Committee.
Top 32 players would be selected for the national team, a spokesman for the National Olympic Committee, Mohammad Arif Paiman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
A dozen athletes would find their way for the senior Afghan team, 10 for the junior team and as many for the teenage outfit, he explained.
Mohammad Ismail, 22, one of the contesters, said, "I returned a month ago from Iran, where I played. However, I found no tennis court in Ghazni."
