5 fighters dead in Farah clash

FARAH CITY (PANinfo-icon): Five insurgents were killed, three injured and four others detained as a result of a clash in the western province of Farah, officials said on Wednesday.

The gunbattle between the police and Talibaninfo-icon took place in the Shiwan area of Bala Baluk district, the district police chief, Maj. Abdul Basir, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The militants were loyal to Mullahinfo-icon Ibrahim, son of key rebel commander Mullah Sultan in Farah.

Confirming the gunbattle, Maj. Mohammad Ghaws Malyar, the deputy police chief, said a joint operation by Afghan and international forces was planned today in Shiwan to purge the area of rebels.
