FARAH CITY (PAN): Five insurgents were killed, three injured and four others detained as a result of a clash in the western province of Farah, officials said on Wednesday.
The gunbattle between the police and Taliban took place in the Shiwan area of Bala Baluk district, the district police chief, Maj. Abdul Basir, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The militants were loyal to Mullah Ibrahim, son of key rebel commander Mullah Sultan in Farah.
Confirming the gunbattle, Maj. Mohammad Ghaws Malyar, the deputy police chief, said a joint operation by Afghan and international forces was planned today in Shiwan to purge the area of rebels.
