FARAH CITY (PAN fighter, sentenced to death by the rebels, had surrendered to security forces after an escape in western Farah province, an official said on Thursday.

Police officer Maj. Mohammad Ghaws Malyar identified the man as Mullah Dad Mohammad, a resident of Bakwa district. He had joined the Taliban ranks five years ago.

The Taliban sentenced Mohammad to death on charges of cooperating with the government and killing the son of a rebel leader, Mullah Shadi, who had also been killed by security forces.

Mohammad said he fled Taliban’s captivity after news that security forces and helicopters had arrived in the area for an operation. The fighters also escaped in fear, making it possible for him to flee.
