JALALABAD (PAN): Five robbers and a dozen poppy farmers have been arrested by police in Khogyani and Sherzad districts of eastern Nangarhar province, official said on Thursday.

The robbers were arrested from a house on Thursday, the administrative head of Khogyani district told Pajhwok Afghan News. Haji Mohammad Hassan said the burglars had extorted thousand of afghanis and mobile phones from passengers in the Mimla area.

A victim, Amanullah claimed the thieves had snatched three mobile phones and 220,000 Pakistani rupees from him.

Hassan said five growers had detained for cultivating opium poppies in different areas of the district.

Elsewhere in the province, seven farmers were arrested in the Kodikhel area of Sherzad district for cultivating poppies, said Mirza Mohammad Nasrat, the town’s administrative head.
