ASADABAD (PAN): A teen-age girl carried out a suicide attack on a building of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) in the eastern province of Kunar on Saturday, injuring five people, officials said.

The suicide attack took place at around 10:30am at the entrance to the NDS office in the Kirhala area of Asadabad, the capital of the province.

Five people, including a woman, were wounded in the suicide attack, Governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Two injured civilians and three security personnel have been brought to the Asadabad Civil Hospital, Public Health Director Dr. Asadullah Fazli said. A woman in critical condition was referred to Jalalabad for treatment.

A burqa-clad suicide bomber was ordered to stop 10 metres from the NDS office gate, said a mechanic, Ashaqullah. Instead of stopping, the girl threw off her burqa and opened fire on the guard from her pistol.

As the guards returned fire, she was killed by the explosives strapped to her body, the mechanic added. It was the second suicide attack carried out by a female in the eastern province, bordering Pakistan‘s Bajaur tribal region.
