KABUL): The Ministry of Finance on Monday signed a $15 million (718.3 million afs) agreement with the United States on capacity-building of government employees, an official said.

The pact was signed between Finance Minister Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal and USAID Mission Director S. Ken Yamashita in Kabul.

“The grant, to be included in the national budget, would be spent through the Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission (IARCSC) win 15 months,” Zakhilwal told reporters.

He acknowledged the USAID had also provided funds in the past for the capacity building of government officials.

At the Kabul International Conference on July 20, the US had pledged funds to the Afghan government for the capacity building of its officials, the USAID mission director recalled. He promised the US would continue to assist Afghanistan in the future.

Secretary of the IARCSC, Zabihullah Saweez, said a major part of the amount would be spent on the capacity building of government servants based in the provinces.
